FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Krysteena Davis recorded 16 kills, four blocks, plus one dig and assist as the Oakland volleyball team dropped a five set thriller Friday against Liberty in its season opener at the Purdue Fort Wayne Tournament.
Freshman
Abby Neidinger made a solid debut for the Black and Gold as she registered 12 kills, one assist and one dig while
Jamie Walling and
Mackenzie Schneider each had nine kills.
Leading the way defensively for Oakland was
Lindsay Wightman who recorded 18 digs and added three assists and two service aces on the offensive side,
Aleksandra Malek registered 12 digs plus eight kills.
Down 2-0, the Golden Grizzlies rallied back to take sets three and four and force a deciding fifth set. Oakland made a small rally to tie it at 16-16 in set five, but Liberty recorded a kill and service ace to seal the win.
The Golden Grizzlies will conclude the tournament tomorrow with a pair of matches, first starting with Indiana State at 1:30 p.m. followed by host Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m.
