Former Oakland assistant coaches Drew Valentine (Loyola Chicago) and Saddi Washington (Michigan) will face-off for a semifinal matchup in the 2018 Final Four on March 31 in San Antonio. 

Valentine, was a standout player for the Golden Grizzlies from 2009-13, becoming the all-time winningest player in school history. The Golden Grizzlies made consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament in 2010 and 2011 and won 87 games during his four-year career. He ended his career with 136 games played, the second-most in school history, then joined Oakland's staff in 2015, becoming the youngest full-time assistant coach hired by Kampe.

Valentine was named to the 2017 Under Armour 30-under-30 Team and is in his first season with Loyola.

Washington was with the Golden Grizzlies for 10 seasons, starting out as an assistant before serving as the associate head coach in his final two seasons.  He was on staff during Oakland's back-to-back Summit League championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011. He helped Oakland finish second in the Horizon League and advance to the Vegas 16 Postseason Tournament Championship game in 2015-16. During his decade with Oakland, he helped the Golden Grizzlies to 198 wins, with five 20-plus win seasons.

Washington is in his second season with the Wolverines.
