KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebojsa Popovic has been named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-North Region Third Team announced by the national office on Wednesday.
 
"This is a great recognition for Nebojsa to receive and be considered as one of the top forwards in a North Region that is represented by all four teams who advanced to the 2018 NCAA College Cup Final Four is a real honor," said head coach Eric Pogue. "There is no doubt that on any given day, no matter who the opponent we play, Nebojsa can be a dominant force on the field and extremely impactful to our team's success."
 
Popovic, a redshirt junior from Rochester Hills, Mich., appeared in 18 games with 16 starts while leading the team in goals (6), assists (7) and points (19) which tied for seventh and ninth overall in the conference respectively. He was named Nike® Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week (10/8) after posting six points off three goals to lead the Golden Grizzlies to a 1-1 record for the week scoring two goals helping Oakland to a pivotal 3-1 league win over Northern Kentucky (10/6) and Oakland's only goal in a 2-1 setback against No. 14 Michigan (10/3). Popovic also scored the game-winning goal with 19 seconds left in regulation at Milwaukee giving Oakland a crucial 1-0 win and was named Nike® Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week (10/22) for the second time this season for his late game heroics.
 
"The scary part is that I do not believe we have consistently seen the very best version of Popovic in his first three years here at Oakland," added Pogue. "If he fully commits 100% of himself on and off the field to being the very best player, teammate and leader from today to next December, he could be a NCAA Division I All-American type talent during his senior season and help our team achieve some pretty special things next fall."
