Karmari Newman poured in 16 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the field including a trio of three-pointers plus four rebounds and two assists as the Oakland men's basketball team cruised past Kalamazoo 99-45 in exhibition play Tuesday night.
Xavier Hill-Mais led all players with 17 points and was 5-for-9 from the field including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Babatunde Sowunmi notched 11 points and pulled down five rebounds in 15 minutes of play all in the second half.
The Golden Grizzlies came out in the first half and shot 61 percent to garner a 54-17 halftime lead. Oakland forced 29 Kalamazoo turnovers and had 40 points off those turnovers compared to just six for Kalamazoo. The Black and Gold also made 36 field goals on 30 assists.
Oakland will kick-off the regular season with its home opener against Toledo Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. inside the O'rena.
