NORRIS RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE AS OAKLAND FALLS TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS

ROCHESTER, Mich. --  Braden Norris recorded his first career double-double by scoring a career high 18 points and dishing out a career best 10 assists as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to Northern Illinois 92-72 Sunday in the final day of the Men Against Breast Cancer Oakland Hoops Challenge.

Norris also was a perfect 5-for-5 from from the three-point line, a career best, and is now 14 of 16 (88 percent) from three-point range in his last four games. The freshman has recorded a career high in points and assists in his last four games while also registering a career high in three-pointers made in three of the last four contests.

Down 29-14 at the 7:30 mark in the first half, Oakland went on a 30-16 run, making 12 consecutive field goals to cut the deficit to 45-44 at halftime, capped off by Norris hitting his fourth trey of the game as time expired. However, the Huskies shot 66 percent from the floor and 61 percent from beyond the arc, outscoring Oakland 47-28 in the second half.

Xavier Hill-Mais scored 22 points and tied a career high with nine rebounds, while hitting a career best four three-pointers. 

Jaevin Cumberland scored 19 points going 3 of 5 from three-point range and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. The redshirt junior was a perfect 21 of 21 from the free throw line on the weekend.

Cumberland was named to the all-tournament team and Hill-Mais was named Most Valuable Player.

Oakland will begin an eight-game road tilt for the entire month of December, starting Saturday, Dec. 1 at Xavier, last season's No. 1 seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament West region. Tip time is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
