Jaevin Cumberland scored a career high 31 points, going a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line as the Oakland men's basketball team ousted Oral Roberts 87-76 Saturday during day two of the 2018 Men Against Breast Cancer Oakland Hoops Challenge.
Cumberland's 15 of 15 free throws made is tied for the third-most without a miss in a game in program history and is the most since 2014 when Travis Bader went 18-for-18 and set the program record.
As a team, the Golden Grizzlies shot 93 percent from the free throw line (26 of 28), including a perfect 17 of 17 in the second half. Oakland's 93 percent free throw shooting marks the second-highest single-game free throw shooting percentage in program history.
Braden Norris scored a career high 14 points and dished out a career best six assists. He also hit a career high four three-pointers and has scored in double-figures his last three games.
Xavier Hill-Mais scored 28 points on 10 of 20 shooting while going 8 for 9 from the free throw line.
Jordan Nobles recorded seven assists on the day, a career high. Oakland recorded 23 assists on 26 made baskets, its fourth 20-plus assist game on the season.
Down by two points at halftime, 37-35, the Golden Grizzlies shot 63 percent from the floor (15 of 24) and three-point line (5 of 8) in the second half, outscoring Oral Roberts 52-39 to secure its ninth win over the Golden Eagles in the last 11 meetings. The Golden Grizzlies are also now 5-1 against Oral Roberts at home since 2009.
The third and final day of the tournament will conclude tomorrow with James Madison and Oral Roberts tipping off at 12 p.m., followed by Oakland and Northern Illinois at 2:30 p.m.
