LAS VEGAS -- Xavier Hill-Mais led all scorers with 29 points and pulled down six rebounds in 22 minutes as the Oakland men's basketball team fell at UNLV 74-61 Friday night. Hill-Mais shot 12 of 16 from the floor and was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Jaevin Cumberland scored in double-figures with 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting and also added three assists and three rebounds.
The Golden Grizzlies shot a season best 74 percent from the free-throw line (17 of 23) and netted 14 second-chance points.
Oakland outscored the Rebels 33-32 in the second half, but could not erase a 42-28 first-half deficit.
The Golden Grizzlies will return home Monday, Nov. 19 against Defiance at 7 p.m. for its first game as a part of the Men Against Breast Cancer Oakland Hoops Challenge.
