ROCHESTER, Mich. --
Karmari Newman led Oakland by scoring a career high 18 points and was 5-for-12 from beyond the arc as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to Western Michigan 85-77 in overtime Tuesday night at the O'rena.
Newman's five three-pointers are also a career best as he hit a three-pointer in Oakland's final three possessions to end the first half and give the Golden Grizzlies a 36-27 lead.
Jordan Nobles scored 14 points and pulled down a career high seven rebounds plus added two blocks and two steals.
Xavier Hill-Mais scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half while also adding two blocks. Hill-Mais took over for a four-minute stretch in the second half scoring 12 straight points for the Golden Grizzlies.
Brad Brechting matched a career high with seven rebounds and added six points and one block in 16 minutes of play.
Newman, who netted half of Oakland's three-pointers on the night, hit his fifth trey with just 17 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 73-73. The Golden Grizzlies stopped Western Michigan (2-1) in their final possession to send the game into overtime. However, the Broncos came out in the overtime period and outscored Oakland 12-4 to secure the win.
Oakland (0-2) will be back in action for its first road contest of the 2018-19 season, taking on UNLV Friday, Nov. 16 at 10 p.m. ET.
