
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's cross country will look to defend their 2017 titles as they head to Kenosha, Wis. to compete in the 2018 Horizon League Championships hosted by UIC. Both races will be held on the Wayne Dannehl Cross Country Course.
The women's 6k will begin at 12 p.m. while the men's 8k will start at 1 p.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 1:45 p.m. at the conclusion of both races.
Last year at the 2017 Horizon League Championships, both the men's and women's team claimed the first place crown. The men tallied 33 points while the women had 29. For the men, it was their second league title in a three-year span while the women became the third school in Horizon League history to win three consecutive championships.
Individually,
Maggie Schneider placed first in the women's heat followed by teammates
Rachel Levy and
Ashley Burr who all earned All-League First Team honors. On the men's side,
Bryce Stroede placed runner-up followed by
Jacob Bowman and
Andrew Bowman who also went on to earn All-League First Team honors.
In addition, Head Coach
Paul Rice was named the 2017 Men's and Women's Coach of the Year while Schneider was named Athlete of the Year.
This season, the Golden Grizzlies have not competed since Oct. 12 at the Bradley Pink Classic where
Connor Goetz was the men's top finisher, placing 39
th in the 8k with a time of 25:21.3 while
Maggie Schneider placed 42
nd in the women's 6k with a time of 21:43.4.
