ROCHESTER, Mich. --
Xavier Hill-Mais recorded a double-double scoring 17 points and hauling in 10 rebounds as the Oakland men's basketball team defeated Hillsdale 67-61 Wednesday night at the O'rena in exhibition play.
Hill-Mais, who shot 7-of-13 from the field, converted a three-point play with one minute remaining in the game to give the Golden Grizzlies a five-point lead. The ensuing possession, he answered a Hillsdale three-pointer with one of his own with 36 seconds left to help seal the win. The redshirt-junior forward also dished out three assists and had two blocks.
Also scoring in double figures was
James Beck with 16 points and six rebounds, shooting 6-of-11 from the field.
Karmari Newman made his Oakland debut and recorded nine points and four rebounds, shooting 3-of-6 from the floor including a pair of three-pointers.
Oakland shot 48 percent from the floor as a team and 44 percent from beyond the arc.
The Golden Grizzlies will continue exhibition play on Nov. 6 against Kalamazoo College inside the O'rena at 7 p.m.
