ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's golf team will tee off its Spring season on Monday at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate from Wexford Golf Club (par 72, 6,913 yards) in Hilton Head, S.C. The 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with a shotgun start.
The Golden Grizzlies had historically two of its best tournaments in program history starting with the Derek Dolenc Invitational with a team score of 868, the eighth-best 54-hole score in program history. They followed it up with a 867 at the CSU Invitational, tied for the sixth-best score in school history.
Evan Bowser returns for his senior season after winning the Horizon League Championship last season and tying for 33rd at the NCAA Regionals. After being named an All-Horizon League selection last year, Bowser became the first player in program history to be an all-league selection his first three seasons. He broke the school record for career rounds under-par and is the school's career stroke-average leader at 73.45. Bowser posted three top-10 finishes out of four events in the Fall, highlighted by breaking the school record for lowest 54-hole tournament stroke score with a 205 (-8) at the Derek Dolenc Invitational. He shot a 68 during the tournament which ranked tied for the 18th-lowest single round in program history.
Connor Jones totaled a pair of top-20 finishes in the final two events of the Fall including a tie for 14th in his first tournament with the Golden Grizzlies at the CSU Invitational. Jake Kneen, the reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, recorded the second-best stroke average in the Fall with a 73.91 highlighted by a 151 at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. Jacob Johnson carded one of the best rounds of the Fall with a 69 during the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate.
