ROCHESTER, Mich. - Women's tennis player Tamara Blum has been named the Oakland Student-Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 16-22, after leading the Golden Grizzlies to their first league win of the season over Green Bay, 7-0.
Blum, a junior from Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, began the day helping Oakland earn the doubles point with a victory in No. 2 doubles 6-2 with her partner Elizabeth Guy. She was also won in No. 3 singles, 6-0 and 6-1, as the Golden Grizzlies swept all singles matches to earn the win against the Phoenix. Earlier in the week, Oakland fell just short to Milwaukee, 4-3, as Blum once again won both of her matches, beating the Panthers in No. 2 doubles 6-2, and winning in No. 3 singles, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5).
Blum and the rest of the tennis team will be back on the court this weekend as they travel to Northeast Ohio to face Youngstown State on Saturday followed by Cleveland State on Sunday.
