LOS ANGELES - Ian Yetsko recorded two hits and two RBIs, while Trent Drumheller collected three hits as the Oakland Baseball team (0-4) fell to Southern California (6-0), 8-6, Friday evening from Dedeaux Field.
Down by four runs in the fourth inning, Southern Cal scored two runs on RBI-singles by Bobby Stahel and Garrett Stubbs followed by another run in the fifth on a Blake Lacey single to right field to cut the Oakland lead to 6-5. In the sixth inning, USC would take a 8-6 lead as Timmy Robinson and Lacey collected RBI-singles, while David Oppenheim drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Oakland looked to cut the two-run deficit in the ninth inning as Brett Impemba and Drumheller each ripped base hits to right field, however USC would get a close double play to end the game. The Golden Grizzlies also had a chance in the eighth inning with runners on first and third as Yetsko sent a long fly ball to right-center field but the Trojans were able to track it down for the final out of the inning.
The Golden Grizzlies grabbed a four-run lead in the top of the fourth inning by scoring five runs led off by Zach Sterry driving in Robby Enslen from second base with a single up the middle. After a Trojan throwing error plated a run, Yetsko would hit a RBI-single to left field. USC would balk home a run to allow Drumheller to push the lead to 6-2 with a single to center field to score Yetsko.
Oakland took the first lead of the game in the top of the second inning as Spencer Marentette hit a two-out double down the right-field line, followed by an Ian Yetsko RBI-single.
Jason Hager started for the Golden Grizzlies and threw 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits and tallied four strikeouts. USC's Bernardo Flores earned the win tossing 3.2 shutout innings in relief, allowing just one hit with seven strikeouts.
Oakland and Southern California will return to Dedeaux Field tomorrow for the second game of a three-game set starting at 5 p.m. ET
