Oakland Falls in Wild 11-Inning Heartbreaker at Milwaukee

FRANKLIN, Wis. — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies Baseball team (11-38, 5-17 HL) fell to Milwaukee (20-31, 12-10 HL) in a tight, 12–11 ballgame, in extra innings on Thursday evening at Franklin Field. The Grizzlies' offense was highlighted by a three-run seventh inning, but the Panthers secured the win with a run in the eleventh.

Junior Ben Clark impressed with three hits and three RBIs, contributing to the team's offense as redshirt-sophomore Lucas Day recorded four hits and drove in four runs with strong performances at the plate. Redshirt-senior Jack Lux added to the scoring with a home run, collecting two RBIs, and crossing the plate three times. Grad senior Carter Hain demonstrated his speed and plate discipline, scoring twice with a triple and drawing two walks in his at-bats.

Oakland fell behind early as Milwaukee scored two runs in the first inning, with a two-run RBI single.

In the second frame, the Golden Grizzlies' offense responded back. Hain walked and advanced to third on a wild pitch, eventually scoring on another wild pitch. Lux and redshirt-sophomore Boston Halloran also walked, setting up Clark's double down the left field line, clearing the bases, bringing in three runs. Oakland led 4–2 after the second inning.

Oakland added to their lead in the third inning. Hain was hit by a pitch and scored on Lux's sacrifice fly, expanding the lead before Milwaukee narrowed the gap with a run in the fourth.

The sixth inning saw both teams score. For Oakland, Day scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Aidan Orr as Milwaukee countered with three runs, tying the game 6–6 in the bottom half.

Oakland reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning when Lux solo homered to right-center. Day contributed with a two-RBI single lasered into right field, extending the lead to 9–6. Milwaukee managed two runs in the bottom of the inning, making it a 9–8 game.

In the eighth, Oakland padded its lead as Day singled again and brought home two more runs. Milwaukee mounted a comeback in the ninth inning with a three-run homer to tie the game at 11–11, sending the contest into extra innings. In the eleventh inning, Milwaukee delivered a walk-off single to shallow center field, bringing in a lone run.

Freshman Ben Green started and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, with two strikeouts and no walks on 53 pitches. Senior Jaxson Easterlin followed with 2.2 innings of work, conceding eight hits and four earned runs, while also earning two strikeouts. Sophomore Andrew Landis took over for 1/3 inning with no hits, as junior Ryan Donley pitched an inning, giving up a hit and two earned runs. Junior Jordan Dahlof threw 3.0 innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while recording three punchouts.

Oakland and Milwaukee will play game two of the series tomorrow, May 15 at Franklin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
