Sept. 29, 2014 ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's soccer team will play its first road league match on Wednesday when it travels to the University of Detroit Mercy beginning at 4 p.m. at Titan Field. This marks the first game of the inaugural Metro Series pitting Oakland and UDM in a head-to-head rivalry for victories over the course of the academic year.
The Golden Grizzlies are 12-5-6 all-time against the Titans including a 2-1 come-from-behind victory last season at the Oakland Soccer Field. Oakland has not lost to UDM since 2010. The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a 1-1 draw to defending Horizon League regular-season champion UIC on Friday. Matt Rickard scored the equalizing goal in the 66th minute against the Flames for his first of the season.
UDM is enters the match 4-3-1 on the season including a 2-1 victory over Wright state in its Horizon League opener. Offensively, the Titans are led by Spiro Pilakos with six points and Adam Clauss with two goals, while Nathan Steinwascher has 34 saves and a 1.21 goals-against average.
