INDIANAPOLIS - Oakland's Nick Daniels earned Horizon League Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. Daniels, a native of Westland, Mich., scored in double figures in both wins for the Golden Grizzlies last week.
After missing most of preseason and the first five games due to a broken foot, Daniels played three minutes against Georgia State (11/26) right before Thanksgiving. He followed that up with 18 minutes against Toledo (11/29) in a thrilling 81-79 victory over the Rockets.
Daniels made his first-ever collegiate start against Rochester College (12/3), scoring 17 points and going 5-for-5 from behind the arc to lead the Golden Grizzlies to an 84-52 victory. At Morehead State (12/6) this past Saturday, Daniels started his second straight game and tallied 10 points on 2 of 4 shooting from behind the arc in an overtime win against the Eagles, 70-68.
For the week, Daniels averaged 13.5 points per game and shot 77.8 percent from long range (7-for-9).
Daniels and the Golden Grizzlies will be in action this Sunday against nationally-ranked Michigan State inside the Breslin Center. The game will tip at 8 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU, and will air on WDFN-AM (1130).
