INDIANAPOLIS - Oakland goalkeeper Wes Mink has been named the Horizon League's Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 20-26, as announced by the league office on Monday. It marks the second-straight week Mink has won the award and the third time this season.
Mink, a native of West Chester, Ohio, made three saves in the 2-0 victory against No. 10 Michigan State on Wednesday and extended his clean sheet streak to six-consecutive games. The streak ties for the longest in the Division I era, while the team has not given up a goal in over 579 minutes, dating back to Oct. 1. Mink's performance in goal was highlighted by a breakaway save in the first half to keep the game tied. The win over the Spartans was the first for the Golden Grizzlies over a ranked opponent since 2010.
Oakland takes the pitch again in a mid-week contest on the road against Michigan on Wednesday, with the first kick taking place at 7:30 p.m.
