ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland men's soccer goalkeeper Wes Mink has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week as well as the College Sports Madness National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced the organizations. Mink was also named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the league office.
Mink, a native of West Chester, Ohio, recorded a pair of shutouts this week to lead Oakland to a 2-0 road win over Milwaukee and a 2-0 victory at home against Belmont. He made 10 saves over the week as the Golden Grizzlies improved to 5-0-1 in league play. Mink and the Oakland defense have recorded five-straight shutouts, the second-longest streak in the Division I era, and have not allowed a goal in over 489 minutes of game action. It is his first national weekly honor and also marks Oakland's third straight Horizon League player of the week award.
Oakland will return to the pitch on Wednesday in non-conference action as they face nationally-ranked Michigan State at the Oakland Soccer Field beginning at 7 p.m. with the match be shown live on ESPN3.
