DAYTON, Ohio - Juliana Guevara and Tamara Blum each won a doubles match and a singles match to lead the Oakland women's tennis team at the WSU Raider Shootout on Friday. OU won a total of five singles matches on the day.
"Overall everyone had some good matches today as it was a good start to the weekend," said head coach Heather Redshaw. "Our doubles play needs some work but everyone is playing with new partners this weekend so I am anticipating better results tomorrow. Elizabeth (Guy) had our best match of the day with a win over a solid player from Youngstown State."
Blum and Cam Sabourin won their opening doubles match 8-4 but dropped their second match in a tight contest 8-7. Blum went on to split her two singles matches winning the first 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 then lost the second match 6-1 and 6-1. Guevara won her opening doubles match 8-5 but fell by the same score in her second match. In singles competition, she won with set scores of 3-6, 6-1 and 6-3 but later fell with scores of 6-4, 7-5 and 6-2.
Oakland had several victories in singles play as Elizabeth Guy won 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3, Karine Celis bounced back to win her final match of the day 7-6 (4) and 6-4, while Maxime Colen earned a victory with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
The Golden Grizzlies will be in action tomorrow for the second day of the WSU Raider Shootout at the WSU Courts at Thomas Cloud Park.
