YOUNGSTOWN & CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Women's Tennis team wrapped up a tough road stretch with back-to-back defeats, falling 6-1 to both Youngstown State and Cleveland State in the final weekend of Horizon League action.
Match 1: Youngstown State 6, Oakland 1
Despite strong efforts across the lineup, the Golden Grizzlies were overpowered by a sharp Penguins squad. Youngstown State swept doubles play to claim the opening point. Oakland's lone highlight came in singles at the No. 2 spot, where
Nisa Bulut battled through three sets to earn the team's only point, prevailing 5-7, 7-5, 10-3.
Freshman
Edie Hammond also pushed her match at No. 3 to three sets before narrowly falling in a 6-2, 1-6, 5-10 decision.
Match 2: Cleveland State 6, Oakland 1
In Saturday's matchup, Oakland again came up short in doubles as Cleveland State secured early momentum with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
The Grizzlies found a bright spot at No. 2 singles, where
Nisa Bulut delivered a second-straight singles win with a gritty 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 performance. Several other matches were tightly contested, including three-set battles from Ida Hultqvist at No. 6 and
Martyna Piechowicz at No. 4.
Oakland moves to 7-10 on the season and will look to make a run in the Horizon League Championship next weekend.
