LEWIS AND TINNION EARN LEAGUE AND NATIONAL WEEKLY HONORS

Oct. 14, 2013

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland's Sean Lewis earned the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week and Joey Tinnion was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, as announced by both the Horizon League and College Soccer News on Monday. Lewis and Tinnion led the Golden Grizzlies to a 2-1 comeback win over Wright State on Saturday and a 1-1 draw at home against Denver on Monday.

Lewis, a senior from Rockford, Mich., garnered his third Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honor as he made seven saves against the Raiders to earn his fifth win of the season and made four saves in the tie against Denver. He has totaled 39 saves so far this season and a .73 goals-against average.

Tinnion, a junior forward from Macomb, Mich., netted the game-winning goal against Wright State in the 67th minute as he scored on a one-timer to the left side of the net. He would also score the lone goal for Oakland against the Pioneers as he would break away from the defense inside the box and take a low shot to the far left post. He has scored four goals in the last three matches for the Golden Grizzlies.

The Oakland men's soccer team will play again on Wednesday when they travel to Michigan State to take on the nationally ranked Spartans starting at 4 p.m. at DeMartin Soccer Complex.
