ROCHESTER, Mich. - Junior Liz Ecker recorded her first collegiate sub-par round with a 71 (-1) in the first round and finished with an overall school record score of 146 (+2), while sophomore Alanna Gerber shot 150 (76-74/+6) to lead the Oakland University women's golf team to a 26-shot win over in-state foe the University of Detroit Mercy, 625 (+49) - 651 (+75), on Sunday at Katke-Cousins Golf Course (Par 72, 6,167 yards) and R&S Sharf Golf Course (Par 72, 6,105 yards).

"It's always good to beat your rival," said OU coach Brian Costello. "A lot of these girls grew up playing junior golf together and Detroit played well, we just played better. Liz played exceptional, Alanna played well and I was proud of the way Mara and the freshmen played."

Ecker, a native of Delray Beach, Fla., carded the second-lowest round in program history with her 71. Her total of 146 sets a new 36-hole record for the Golden Grizzlies, edging Mara Mazzoni's (2001-04) 147 set in 2003 at the Lady Falcon Invitational. Gerber's total of 150 is tied for the fourth-lowest 36-hole total.

"It was really exciting to be there and I am starting to get comfortable being under par," said Ecker. "I'm really happy that I won."

Sophomore Mara Kovac posted solid back nine stretches on each of her first and second rounds, finishing the day in third place overall with a score of 156 (79-77/+12). Finishing in a tie with Kovac for Detroit was the Titans low scorer Alainna Stefan at 156 (80-76).

Freshman Elizabeth Dawkins tallied rounds of 87 and 86 to finish with an overall score of 173 (+29). UDM's Christina Thorne finished fifth overall in the match with a total of 157 (80-77/+13).
