ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University men's and women's golf teams will open the spring season this Monday and Tuesday at the Jackrabbit Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by South Dakota State and will take place at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.
Oakland is led sophomore Michael Coriasso and freshman Jakob Ziegler. Coriasso ranks fifth in The Summit League in scoring average at 74.8. Ziegler fired a 66 in the second round at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Oct. 19, which is the lowest round in the league this season.
The men will play on the 7065 yard, par-71 Desert Course. Competing against Oakland will be Arkansas State, Cleveland State, Drake, Loyola (Maryland), Nebraska, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UMKC, Western Illinois and Youngstown State.
The Golden Grizzlies are led by sophomore Liz Ecker and senior Austin McDermaid who are both among the top 10 in The Summit League in average. McDermaid is sixth with a 78.6 while Ecker is 10th at 79.4.
The women will play on the 6,022 yard, par 72 Lakes Course. Competing against Oakland will be Centenary, Cleveland State, Drake, Gonzaga, Iowa, Kennesaw State, Missouri State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Utah and UMKC.
