Oakland vs. Detroit
November 13, 2009
POST-GAME QUOTES
Oakland University Head Coach Beckie Francis
Opening Statement
I think that we have a lot of work to do on working together. We're still trying to find out what our rotations are. With the injury to (Brittany Carnago) we are going to get back to work."
The difference between the first and second half
"I think because our shots weren't falling, our players got frustrated, and then we were not playing as intense defensively as we were in the first half. We weren't yelling out assignments after missing shots. We have to get excited whether we are scoring or not scoring."
Detroit's speed
"We had a hard time stopping their penetration. And that is obviously something we need to work on"
On the play of Yar Shayok
"She had some big buckets, I thought Detroit did a good job of attacking the players in foul trouble. I thought they played very smart."
Oakland University freshman Bethany Watterworth
"It feels to play this well in the first game. I worked hard over the summer. This team was practicing and working hard. I came out with nothing to lose and gave it my best effort. I know there is room for improvement for me individually and for the whole team"
On the differences between the high school and collegiate game
"The speed. It is a lot quicker than high school. This team is especially fast-paced."
Detroit Head Coach AUTUMN RADEMACHER
Opening Statement
"Wow, I wasn't sure what to expect out there. We wanted to be the team that played the hardest and hit shots and we did that and came out on top."
On the play of Yar Shayok
"She had a good game. She misses layups in practice and I really get on her. I hate to say she is a gamer but she sure is. She is the most competitive intense player I've ever coached and she really stepped it up tonight."
On the team's play in the second half
"Shay really wanted the ball. She had that look in her eye and we gave it to her. We were able to get the ball inside to her. We were able to maintain as they didn't hit shots on the other end and we were able to grab their missed shots. So that was huge."
On the team's adjustments to Bethany Watterworth
"We were supposed to be in front but we got tired and starting falling behind her. In the second half we went to a zone which clogged up the middle and she was not able to be as effective in the second half. On team speed. Our defense really propelled our offense in the second half."
