Oakland To Square Off Against No. 15 Ohio State

Oct. 6, 2009

ROCHESTER, Mich. - After defeating Centenary College 1-0 last Saturday to keep a perfect record in Summit League Play, the Oakland University men's soccer team (5-3-2, 2-0 Summit League) will go up against No. 15 Ohio State University (5-2-3, 1-1-0 Big Ten) in non-league action on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the OU Soccer Field.

This game will be a rematch of the opening round of the 2008 NCAA College Cup, when the Golden Grizzlies, who earned an at-large bid, hosted the Buckeyes at the OU Soccer Field. After tying 0-0, Oakland fell to OSU in penalty kicks. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series, 0-7-2.

Last time out, the Golden Grizzlies went 1-0-1 over last week, after tying No. 24 Michigan 0-0 on Sept. 30 then proceeding to shutout Centenary 1-0 on Oct. 3, giving sophomore goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt his league-leading fifth shutout of the season and his second Summit League Defensive Player of the Week nod.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes dropped an 1-0 decision to No. 25 Northwestern on Oct. 4 in Big Ten Play, concluding a three-game streak against ranked opponents. Ohio State also defeated No. 21 Michigan State 1-0 on Sept. 27 and fell 3-0 to top-ranked Akron on Sept. 30.

The match is slated for a 4 p.m. start and can be followed on Gametracker at www.ougrizzlies.com.
