DETROIT, Mich. - Senior Michelle Maxfield picked up a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, while freshmen Caitlin Young and Karen Karoub both picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, but the Oakland University women's tennis team (1-1) dropped a pair of matches in doubles competition, falling 5-4 to Wayne State on Monday.
Maxfield's 6-2, 6-0 win keyed OU's singles effort, while Young rallied to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win after dropping the first set. Karoub turned in a solid 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5.
Young teamed with sophomore Jackie Dinicu to pick up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles for the Golden Grizzlies.
OU will return to action at the Niagara Invitational on Oct. 17-18.
