ROCHESTER, Mich. - Returning Oakland University men's soccer players Steve Clark, Ian Daniel, Piotr Nowak and St. Louis all played for the Michigan Bucks this summer in the Premier Development League (PDL). All they did is help the Bucks win the Central Conference championship and earn the national top seed of 67 teams.
That No. 1 billing was tough to live up to, as the Michigan Bucks fell in the playoffs, 2-1, to Kalamazoo Outrage, 3-1, in overtime on Saturday at the Ultimate Sports Arena in Pontiac, Mich. The Outrage scored a goal in the 86th minute to tie the game at 1-1 and send it to extra time.
Clark, a senior from Mason, Mich., garnered all-conference honors after leading the conference with 13 wins. He did not suffer a loss between the pipes until this Saturday, finishing with a record of 33-1-8 since July 2006.
Nowak, a senior from Shelby Township, Mich., had a solid offensive summer, tallying four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points. He played 15 games for the Bucks.
Daniel, a rising senior and 2007 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year, helped the Bucks attain that top national seed by headlining a talented back line. A native of Troy, Mich., Daniel helped the Bucks' defense allow just 13 goals in 15 games, posting six shutouts.
St. Louis, a junior from Chaguanas, Trinidad, saw limited action and tallied just one assist in six games.
The Golden Grizzlies will return for offseason workouts on Aug. 12, opening up the season with an exhibition game versus Bowling Green at the OU Soccer Field. That match is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
