ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University stretched out their lead for the women on the second day of the 2008 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Recreation and Athletics Center. Freshman Lauren Patterson won the 200-yard freestyle with a meet record time of 1:52.07. Oakland also broke the meet record in the 200 medley relay. Oakland tops the chart with 683 points, Western Illinois is second with 377 points while South Dakota State is third with 320 points. Rounding out the scoring is Centenary (fourth - 292 pts), Eastern Illinois (fifth - 245 pts) and IUPUI (sixth - 210 pts). The championships conclude tomorrow with preliminaries starting at 11:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m.
Patterson needed her record breaking time as Kaley Rowe of Western Illinois finished just 5/100th of a second behind her. The previous record had been 1:52.19 by Line Jensen of Oakland in 2004. The 200 medley squad of sophomore Agnes Solan, freshman Emily Wike, sophomore Kristen Hamilton and freshman Kelli Dewey set the new record at 1:45.00 That broke the mark of 1:45.94 set by Oakland in 2006.
Other winners were junior Sophia Gustafsson in the 400 individual medley (4:26.18), Hamilton in the 100 butterfly (57.43), freshman CHelsea in the three-meter springboard (263.85), Solan in the 100 backstroke (54.74), Wike in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.12) and the 800 freestyle relay team of Solan, Patterson, Gustafsson and sophomore Sarah Ludema (7:36.90)
