POSTGAME QUOTES
Oakland University Head Coach Gary Parsons
On playing shorthanded down the stretch
"We had to battle. But even with 10 men we had a chance to put the game away several times. You can't fault the guys. They gave everything they had. We played well with 10 men and just couldn't get it in."
"With one less guy on the field, you can't press like we like to press. You have to absorb some of their game and counterattack, which we did a good job of. We got a lot of good chances despite being down 10 men to nine. I don't remember a real dangerous opportunity for them when we were playing with 10 men, to be honest, and we had several. We just didn't get it in. (Catalano) hit the crossbar with an open net there and we just didn't get the ball in the net."
On OU's chances for getting an at-large bid
"I think they're very good. We were 30th in the last RPI, these guys were 91st. With a tie out of this game we might slide to 32 or 33, that should get you in. I feel confident that we're going to be in the tournament."
UMKC Head Coach Rick Benben
On his team's performance over the weekend
"We're just real proud. I think our league this year was very strong. I think that beating Western Illinois, getting the game, the result against Oakland, even on penalty kicks, that's an honor for us because those are two really good teams. I'm proud of how our team played, I certainly think Western, and certainly Oakland today played excellent. I think it was a really good tournament overall."
On the possibility of two Summit League teams making the NCAA tournament
"I think that our league doesn't get the respect, certainly, and I think overall this part of the country, the Great Lakes and Midwest don't get the respect that the coasts get, so I think hopefully the more good soccer we play, it will be observed and teams will benefit. But Oakland is certainly one of the best 48 teams in the country."
On the effect that the changing weather had over the course of the game
"I think both of us would have certainly liked to play when it was 55 and calm, and the field wasn't heavy. I thought the players just dealt with it the best they could. It was an exciting game, not the most artistic at times, but I thought both teams really worked their rear ends off and just kind of fought it out."
