COLUMBUS, Ohio ???C Sophomore Stew Givens tallied a goal and junior goalkeeper Steve Clark made five saves, but it was not enough as Ohio State (8-3-2) defeated Oakland University (5-4-2), 2-1, in men???s soccer action on Wednesday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Buckeyes drew first blood in the game with a goal at the 8:40 minute mark on a header off a corner kick to give OSU a 1-0 lead. The Golden Grizzlies would tie the score in the 20th minute as Givens received a pass in the box and headed it past the Ohio State goalkeeper as the game was tied 1-1 after 45 minutes of play.

The game would continue to be tied until the 80th minute as the Buckeyes notched their second goal off a set play from a corner kick as Eric Brunner headed a pass from Xavier Balc, his second assist of the night, past Clark to give OSU a 2-1 victory.

Oakland had eight shots, three corner kicks and three shots on goal, while Ohio State had 21 shots, 16 corner kicks and seven shots on goal.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to Summit League action as they travel to Centenary for a 2 p.m. ET conference match this Saturday, Oct. 13.
