Elmhurst, Ill. (Nov. 1, 2006) ???C Oakland University sophomore Sophia Gustafsson (Djursholm, Sweden) was named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week for her role in an OU sweep at the Golden Grizzly Tri-Meet last Saturday, the conference announced this afternoon. Gustafsson led the women???s swimming team with two wins and a second-place finish in three events. Gustafsson captured the 1000-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 10:25.24, a full 13 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. She placed second in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:10.49 and capped the afternoon with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:05.78. Gustafsson was a member of the All-Conference first team and the Newcomer of the Year in her freshman campaign.
