Toledo, Ohio (Sept. 25, 2005) ???C On the toughest day of competition, the Oakland women???s golf team posted its highest score of the three-round Rocket Classic to finish in seventh place in the 14-team field. Senior Patricia Ellsworth (Leamington, Ont.) led the way for the Golden Grizzlies with a score, earning her a fourth-place finish. Oakland, finishing with a three-round total of 938, was passed by both Grand Valley State University (934) and Xavier University (936) on the final day of competition. Tournament host, the University of Toledo, won the event with a score of 892, posting the only team total under 300 (293) in the final round. Ellsworth played consistent golf throughout the weekend to finish plus-nine for the tournament and jump from sixth place after the second to fourth place when competition wrapped up. Junior Christina Cibrario (Milford, Mich.) finished in a tie for 15th with a score of +16 (75-76-81-232) as the Golden Grizzlies second-highest finisher. Consistency also helped sophomore Jenna Goulet (Forest, Ont.) earn a share of 28th place as she posted a score of 238 (+28) after shooting rounds a round of 78 to open the tournament and finishing up with two rounds of 80. Junior Stacey Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich.) was Oakland???s final scored golfer, placing in a tie for 40th at +27 (87-74-82-243). Also competing for the Golden Grizzlies, junior Alicia Zuckerman (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished in 63rd place, jumping seven places in the final round. After the first day of competition, Zuckerman sat in a tie for 70th after rounds of 87 and 88, but an 82 on Sunday moved her up the leader board. Freshman Nikki Swan (Tipp City, Ohio) finished in a tie for 73rd place with a score of 266 (91-85-90). Oakland will return to action on Sept. 29-30 for its next battle, the OU Challenge Matches on its home course, Katke-Cousins Golf Course, against the University of Detroit, which finished in 12th at the Rocket Classic, and Grand Valley State)
