The Oakland University men's soccer team ran past Butler in the second half to post a 4-1 victory in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Golden Grizzlies trailed 1-0 after 45 minutes of play, but scored four unanswered goals in the second half, outshooting Butler 17-3 en route the victory. Oakland improves to 4-3-1, while Butler falls to 2-5. OU's
Adam Heinemann (Ortonville/Brandon) began the scoring in the second half on a pass from
Eris Tafaj (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) at the 74 minute mark. Junior forward Inge Pederson (Klofta, Norway/Jessheim) notched the next two goals for Oakland at the 77th and 78th minute marks to give OU a 3-1 lead. The final goal of the game came from Tafaj's foot as he beat the Butler netminder and Oakland went onto a 4-1 victory.
Jeppe Lagerbohm (Espoo, Finland/Pohjois-Tapiolan Lukio) and
Anders Vollen (Oslo, Norway/Lambertsetes) assisted on the first Pederson goal, while Tafaj recorded an assist on the second Pederson goal. Leading the way for Oakland offensively was Pederson and Tafaj. Pederson had two goals, including the game-winner at the 77th minute mark, while Tafaj had a goal and an assist. Oakland had 17 shots, two cornerkicks and 18 fouls. Butler had three shots, one cornerkick and 17 fouls. Oakland University will open up Mid-Continent Conference play against IUPUI on Sunday, October 1. The match will be played in Indianapolis and will start at 2 p.m.
