ROCHESTER, Mich.  -- The Oakland softball team (24-22, 14-6 HL) will host the 2015 Horizon League Softball Championships May 6-9 at the Oakland Softball Field. The Golden Grizzlies enter the tournament as a No. 1 seed and will play the winner of No. 4 Green Bay and No. 6 Cleveland State on Thursday, May 7 at 12 p.m. The entire tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN 3.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Oakland has five post season tournament appearances with the last coming in 2003 when the Golden Grizzlies went 4-1 to claim the program's second consecutive Mid-Continent Championship. Oakland's overall tournament record is 12-8.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX: Oakland took the season series at home against Green Bay with a 2-1 record (April 17-18). Senior infielder Hailey Mohrfeld leads league in batting (.450) and triples (5) while ranking second in hits (67). In the circle, sophomore Heather Sanderson (8-10) leads the pitching staff in strikeouts (88) and innings pitched (112.1).

A LOOK AT THE VIKINGS: The Golden Grizzlies also went 2-1 at Cleveland State earlier this season (April 24-25). CSU is l ed by senior shortstop Cynthia Woodard who leads the Horizon League is just about every major offensive category: Hits (69), RBI (50), home runs (24), runs scored (47), total bases (154) and slugging percentage (.969). In the circle, junior Susan Knight (11-12) leads the pitching staff in ERA (3.15), innings pitched (149.0) and is second in strikeouts (72).

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: As a team and individually, Oakland ranks near the top in many Horizon League hitting and pitching statistical categories:

Team Hitting:
1st: sacrifice bunts (45).
2nd: T-home runs (40), triples (10), total bases (573), sacrifice flies (12).
3rd: Hits (381), on-base percentage (.376), plate appearances (1515), at bats (1287).
4th: Batting average (.296) RBI (201), slugging percentage (.445), runs scored (219).
5th: Doubles (52).

Team Pitching:
1st: wins (24), lowest ERA (2.88), fewest runs allowed (175), earned runs allowed (127), home runs allowed (18).
2nd: strikeouts (211), fewest hits allowed (349), walks allowed (93), opposing batting average (.279).

Sarah Hartley: T-2nd - triples (4), 2nd - total bases (106), T-2nd -  stolen bases (21), T-3rd - home runs (11), 4th - RBI (36), slugging percentage (.693), 5th - hits (56), runs scored (37), 6th - sacrifice bunts (7), 7th - batting average (.366).
Sara Cupp: T-2nd - RBI (38), T-3rd - doubles (13), 4th - on-base percentage (.488), 6th - slugging percentage (.664), 7th - walks (26), 9th - total bases (85), 10th - batting average (.359).
Jackie Kisman: 2nd - at bats (179), plate appearances (188), 3rd - hits (62).
Courtnee Johnson: 1st - sacrifice flies (3), 6th - batting average (.370), 9th - slugging percentage
(.622).
Morgan Muron: T-2nd - stolen bases (21), 3rd - sacrifice bunts (11).

Individual Pitching:
Erin Kownacki: 1st - wins (13), 2nd - games started (25), 4th - innings pitched (143.0), 5th - strikeouts (86).
