Men's Soccer Faces Jags and Wolverines in Upcoming Matchups

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies return home and look to stay undefeated in conference play as they take on IU Indy this Saturday before traveling to Ann Arbor for an in-state duel with Michigan.

Through three conference matches, Oakland is 1-0-2, most recently playing to a 1-1 draw at Robert Morris on Sept. 19.

Oakland continues to dominate possession during Horizon League play and has held opponents to very few scoring chances, allowing just six shots on goal and two goals across those three matches.

IU Indy (IUI) comes into the week winless in three conference matches (3-4-1 overall). On a four-game winless streak, the Jags did come out of their last match with a 3-3 tie against Western Illinois.

The Jags are still searching for an identity, with an offense that ranks ninth in goals scored in the conference and a defense that sits in the middle of the rankings. IU Indy has scored multiple goals in just one match this season, as its attack continues to search for more offensive production.

Jose Antonio Herrera leads the Jags with four goals, ranking in the top 10 in the conference in the category.

Keeper Peter Field has emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference for IU Indy as well, amassing the second-most saves (35) in the conference.

Oakland will take on the Wolverines in their yearly in-state matchup. Always a close match, the teams are deadlocked over the last five meetings, with each team earning a win and two matches ending in ties.

The Golden Grizzlies take their first trip to Ann Arbor since 2024, when they lost 2-1. Last year's meeting between the squads was cinematic, as the teams combined for four second-half goals, including two in the final 10 minutes by Christopher Jean-Leger, which erased a 2-0 deficit for Oakland and ended the match in a draw.

With an even 2-2-2 record coming into the week, the Wolverines look to protect home field.

In a deep Big Ten conference, Michigan ranks last in goals scored (eight) and averages the third-fewest shots on goal per game at just under five.

Grayson Elmquist has served as the lead goal scorer for the Wolverines with three on the season, while also putting 12 shots on goal. Joao Paulo Ramos leads the team with three assists for Michigan, ranking among the top of the Big Ten as a setup man.

Oakland is primed for more intense action and top-class matchups with a conference duel and an in-state rivalry.
