MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Golden Grizzlies lost to Milwaukee 1-0 on Thursday in the first game of a two-game Wisconsin road trip.
Oakland kept the Panthers off the board in the first half, with
Norah Schmidt making three saves and the defense getting through a late stretch of Panthers pressure.Â
Ella Shapiro recorded Oakland's first shot in the 10th minute, and the teams traded fouls through a choppy opening 20 minutes before Oakland earned a corner kick at 19:11. Schmidt stopped shots in the 11th, 18th and 27th minutes as the Panthers put attempts on frame.
Lilly Boebel sent a late attempt high in the 45th minute, but the half ended scoreless.
Oakland kept the Panthers off the board through the first 20 minutes of the second half, but Emily Petring scored for the Panthers at 64:55 to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Oakland created looks through
Corinne Jenkins at 46:28 and Boebel at 53:02 while also absorbing a Panthers stretch that included a corner kick and shots by Petring, Natalie Zodrow and Denise Camarena between 48:11 and 58:56.
Bella Haynes put another Oakland shot wide left at 71:17 as the Golden Grizzlies continued their search for an equalizer.
Oakland finished the half without a game-tying goal, and the Panthers closed out the 1-0 final.
Norah Schmidt recorded five saves over 90 minutes in goal, making three stops in the first half and two in the second. Boebel led Oakland with two shots off the bench.
