Clark Homers Twice as Oakland Falls in Series against Wright State

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Oakland (10-33, 5-16 HL) fell to Wright State (22-22, 15-3 HL), 16-2, dropping the series on Sunday at the Oakland Baseball Field. Oakland managed 10 hits in the game, including two home runs, but struggled to contain Wright State's offense, which amassed 16 hits, including three home runs and three triples, aided by strong winds in Rochester.

Junior Ben Clark led the offensive effort with two solo home runs, driving in the lone two runs for the Black and Gold. Redshirt-junior Sam Griffith contributed with two hits, as junior Aidan Orr added to the hitting tally with one hit and drew a walk in his appearance. On the mound, freshman Ben Green led the staff with 4.1 innings of work and recorded a strikeout.

Wright State opened the top half with an RBI single before Oakland responded. Clark scored for the Golden Grizzlies in the bottom with a solo home run to deep left field, tying the board at one apiece.

The Raiders took control in the second inning by an RBI groundout, followed by two-run homer.  In the fifth inning, WSU hit a three-run home run, increasing their advantage to 7-1.

The sixth inning saw Wright State adding four more runs. Turner's two-RBI double and Braylen Blomquist's two-RBI double pushed their lead to 11-1.

WSU scored five more runs, including a two-run homer, to conclude scoring in the top of the seventh. The Golden Grizzlies managed another run in the bottom inning  to stay alive with Clark's second home run of the game, a solo shot to right field, but were unable to overcome the run-rule game.

The right-hander Green pitched 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs, while picking up a strikeout. Freshman Tagertt Dillard entered in relief and pitched 1.1 innings, giving up a hit and two earned runs, with a strikeout before sophomore Andrew Landis yielded six hits and six earned runs in his one inning of work. Senior Jaxson Easterlin concluded Oakland on the mound, allowing one hit and one earned run in 1/3 of an inning and a K at the plate.

Oakland is back on the road in midweek fashion to Mount Pleasant to take on Central Michigan on Tuesday, May 5. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
