LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the second straight season, Oakland Track and Field superstar
Ja-Van Poole will compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, punching his ticket to this year's championship meet with a standout performance in the 400m hurdles quarterfinals at NCAA East Regionals.
Poole began regionals on Wednesday, May 27, where he ran a 50.46 and placed second in his heat to automatically move on to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals on Friday, May 29, Poole blazed the track with a time of 49.10s, placing second in his heat and earning a bid to the NCAA Championships.
In his quarterfinal race, Poole broke his own Oakland school record, marking the second time this season he has broken his own all-time mark. He now owns the top nine times in the 400m hurdles in program history.
Poole will travel to the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., from June 10-14 for the NCAA Championships.
