BOWLING GREEN, Oh. - The Golden Grizzlies were unable to come up with a win in their final road games of the regular season, dropping both games of an early-week doubleheader to the Falcons at Bowling Green.
GAME 1
The Golden Grizzlies fell to Bowling Green 8-0 in game one.
Bowling Green opened the game with a strong first inning, scoring five runs. Behrendt doubled to right center, allowing Steffes to score. Hunt's single to right field brought Behrendt home, followed by Martin's single that scored Chevalier. Kaufman then doubled, driving in two more runs as Martin and Hunt crossed the plate. The inning concluded with Bowling Green leading 5-0.
In the fourth inning, Oakland's
Addison Caldwell singled and successfully stole both second and third base, but the team was unable to capitalize, leaving Caldwell stranded. The Falcons added to their lead with a single by Simko that scored a pinch runner, ending the inning at 6-0.
BGSU further extended its lead in the fifth inning. Hunt tripled to right center and Gardner, who pinch ran for Hunt, scored on a fielder's choice by Kaufman. Martin also scored on a subsequent error, bringing the score to 8-0.
Addison Caldwell made an impact on the base paths by stealing two bases.
Mary Newton pitched four innings, allowing just three hits in a solid outing.
GAME 2
The Golden Grizzlies fought valiantly in game two, but ultimately fell by a narrow margin of 4–3 in the finale at Meserve Field. Oakland rallied with three runs in the sixth inning, but it was not enough to overcome Bowling Green's early lead.
Bowling Green took an early lead in the first inning when Simko homered to right field, bringing in two runs. The Golden Grizzlies were unable to score in the opening inning, leaving the score at 2-0 in favor of the Falcons after one inning.
In the second inning, Hutter's double drove in another run for BGSU. Oakland did not manage any runs, and the score increased to 3-0 for BGSU at the end of the second inning.
Oakland found its offensive stride in the sixth inning.
Brooklyn Plitz singled, followed by a single from
Addison Caldwell.
Autumn Liebhauser then singled and advanced on an error, allowing Plitz to score.
Kayla Turmell hit a single, bringing in Liebhauser and Caldwell, narrowing the deficit. Despite a valiant effort, the Golden Grizzlies ended the inning trailing 4-3.
The game concluded with the Falcons holding onto the lead, resulting in a final score of 4-3 in favor of BGSU.
Kayla Turmell recorded two RBIs, contributing significantly to Oakland's offensive output.
Autumn Liebhauser posted two hits and one RBI, showcasing her effectiveness at the plate.
Brooklyn Plitz collected two hits and scored a run, providing consistency at the top of the lineup.
