ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (10-26, 5-10 HL) lost a tense battle to Eastern Michigan (12-26, 6-15 MAC), 11-10, in extra innings on Wednesday at the Oakland Baseball Field. The game featured a dramatic back-and-forth, with Oakland rallying to tie the game in the eighth inning with two runs, forcing extra innings. Eastern Michigan ultimately secured the win in the 10th inning with a sacrifice fly.
Junior
Ben Clark finished the day with four hits, including a double, and scored two runs in the game. Grad senior
Carter Hain also collected four hits, two of which were doubles, and drove in two runs. Fifth-year
Kyle Revere recorded a home run, two RBIs while scoring once as redshirt-junior
Sam Griffith continued a hot streak, adding two hits and crossing the plate three times.
The action began in the first inning with both teams scoring a run each. For Oakland, Clark walked and scored on a double by redshirt-sophomore
Tony Konopiots, tying the game at 1-1 after the first frame.
In the second inning, the home team responded to the Eagles's run with an RBI single by Clark. The third frame saw EMU take a 6-4 lead, highlighted by a home run and a two-RBI double. Oakland countered with a two-run effort of their own, including an RBI double by Griffith and an RBI single by Hain.
Eastern Michigan extended its lead to 10-5 by the end of the fifth inning before Oakland managed to add a run with a RBI groundout by sophomore
Andrew Landis.
The Golden Grizzlies narrowed the gap in the sixth inning when Revere hit a two-run homer down to center field, followed by a run scoring on an Eagle fielding error, bringing the score to 10-8.
In the eighth inning, OU tied the game at 10-10 as Hain's RBI single and redshirt-senior
Jack Lux's sacrifice bunt brought in two runs.
With the game tied, Eastern Michigan scored the decisive run in the top of the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly. Oakland was unable to respond in the bottom half, resulting in an 11-10 final score in favor of the visitors.
Freshman
Will Paxson started on the bump for Oakland, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six earned runs on four hits, and earned a strikeout. Grad senior
Camden Cooper followed, giving up two earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings, while junior
Jordan Dahlof pitched 2.0 innings, conceding two earned runs on three hits. Coming to the mound for the first time in his collegiate career, redshirt-sophomore
Boston Halloran faced four batters in a complete inning, going scoreless along with junior
Ryan Donley. Freshman
Tagertt Dillard closed with 2.0 innings of work, allowing one earned run on a hit with a strikeout.
The Golden Grizzlies will travel to face Northern Kentucky in their next Horizon League series starting Friday, April 24 at 3 p.m. ET.
