Track and Field Shines at Elaine Leigh Invite

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland Track & Field delivered a strong all-around performance while hosting the Elaine Leigh Invite, highlighted by multiple event wins, deep distance fields, and dominant showings in the throws and sprints across two days of competition at the Oakland Track & Field Facility.

Day One, Friday Apr. 17

Oakland opened the meet with a series of standout performances in the field events. Xavier Davis claimed the men's triple jump title with a mark of 14.21m, while Kylei Anderson continued her stellar season by winning the women's long jump (5.61m) and adding a third-place finish in the javelin (34.35m).

In the hammer throw, Oakland controlled both competitions. Blake Foster led the way with a first-place finish in the men's event (52.54m). On the women's side, Elizabeth Rice placed second (52.46m), followed by Jamie Giese in fourth (47.08m) and Lainee Wagner in sixth (45.87m).

The pole vault group added depth, with Victoria Sanders and Genna Golab each clearing 3.33m, while Allison Shelton followed at 3.18m. On the men's side, Simon Griemert cleared 4.12m.

On the track, Oakland's distance crew turned in one of the most impressive collective efforts of the meet. Wesley Hollowell captured the men's 5,000m title in 14:25.48, while Anne May (18:20.92) and Madeline Richman (18:51.15) competed in the women's race. Joe Shaya added a solid performance in the men's 5K (15:06.86).

The Golden Grizzlies dominated the women's 1500m, taking seven of the top ten spots. Eliza Bush led the charge with a first-place finish (4:37.66), followed by Haleigh Bissett in second (4:40.86). Grace Wessel (4th, 4:45.86), Abigail Rice (5th, 4:47.52), Ellie Voetberg (7th, 4:47.79), Mackenzie Lemke (9th, 4:48.61), and Courtney Bovair (10th, 4:50.57) rounded out the scoring group.

The men's 1500m saw similar depth, with Collin McLaughlin leading Oakland in fourth (3:55.39). He was followed by Mamdouh Abukaram (5th, 3:57.58), Carter McCalister (6th, 3:57.61), Bryce Nowik (7th, 3:58.02), Tyler Donovan (8th, 3:58.15), Josiah Magley (9th, 3:58.36), and Colin Farmer (10th, 3:58.38).

Day Two, Saturday Apr. 18

Oakland carried its momentum into Saturday, highlighted by a dominant showing in the sprints and hurdles. Lauren Goodman won the women's 100m (12.12), while Emma Nicholson placed third (12.29) before returning to win the 200m (25.58). Kylei Anderson added a sixth-place finish in the 200m (26.69).

In the hurdles, Ja-Van Poole captured the men's 110m hurdles title (15.25), while Natalia Bohn placed fifth in the women's 100m hurdles (15.29). Austin Graham added another victory for Oakland in the men's 400m hurdles (56.35).

The women's 400m saw a strong Oakland presence, with A'Naia Hers finishing second (58.71) and Olivia Reynolds taking third (58.92).

In the middle-distance events, Collin McLaughlin placed second in the men's 800m (1:56.37), followed by Mamdouh Abukaram (4th, 1:56.69), Tyler Donovan (6th, 1:57.64), Josiah Magley (9th, 2:00.69), and Pierce Grzymkowski (10th, 2:00.88). On the women's side, Hannah Fisher finished second (2:15.89), with Grace Wessel (3rd, 2:18.07) and Abigail Rice (4th, 2:20.89) close behind. Lauren Walker (7th, 2:25.00) and Madeline Richman (8th, 2:25.31) added depth.

The throws group continued to excel. Blake Foster placed fourth in the discus (44.58m) and second in the shot put (15.92m). Jamie Giese recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the women's discus (40.12m) and shot put (14.52m). Destiny DeJarnett added fifth-place finishes in both discus (37.99m) and shot put (11.68m), while Lainee Wagner placed ninth in the discus (33.53m).

Oakland closed the meet in dominant fashion, as the quartet of A'Naia Herd, Olivia Reynolds, Natalia Bohn, and Lauren Goodman captured the women's 4x400 relay title in 4:02.63.
