Plitz Reaches 100 Career Hits as Rally Against RMU Falls Short

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies put up a valiant effort, but fell to Robert Morris with a final score of 7-5 at OU Softball Field on Friday.

Oakland's offense was firing with 10 hits, including a homer for the third straight game, but couldn't quite counter a three-run surge from RMU in the sixth inning.

In this nail-biter against the Colonials, both teams traded blows early. The first inning saw each team putting two runs on the board. RMU struck first with a two-run shot from Courtney Poulich, but Maggie Murphy answered back with a two-run homer of her own, bringing Kam Troyer home and leveling things at 2-2.

The third inning tipped the scales slightly in RMU's favor, with Rudd's RBI double giving them a 3-2 edge.

The Golden Grizzlies fought back in the fifth, tying it up once more. Addison Caldwell laced a double to right and scored courtesy of a single from Brooklyn Plitz, who notched her 100th career hit on the RBI. Then, Storm Kentros, coming in as a pinch runner, crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Kayla Turmell, knotting the score at 4-4.

However, RMU seized control in the sixth with three crucial runs, with Hopf, Facher, and Brant each driving in a run, pulling ahead 7-4.

In the final inning, Oakland made one last effort to rally. Alexa Kownacki, pinch running for Murphy, dashed home on a Caldwell single, but the rally fell just short, as Oakland wasn't able to capitalize with the bases loaded and two outs, wrapping up the game at 7-5 in RMU's favor.

Kenna Bommarito took the mound for a complete game, fanning seven batters. She kept RMU scoreless in four innings and held their leadoff batters hitless in two.

Murphy shined with two hits, including her homer, racking up two RBIs. Caldwell was on fire with three hits and an RBI double. Plitz's RBI single was a highlight in her four at-bats, marking her milestone 100th career hit.

The Golden Grizzlies and Colonial will square off in a series-ending doubleheader on Sunday, March 29,  beginning at noon at the Oakland Softball Field.
