ROCHESTER, Mich. – After nearly three weeks away from competition, the Oakland women's golf team returns to action at the NKU Julie Invitational in Batavia, Ohio.
Now in its sixth year, the NKU Julie Invitational — also known as "The Julie" — replaced Northern Kentucky's "NKU Fall Classic," which began in 2015. Oakland is back at Northern Kentucky's invitational for the first time since fall 2018, when the Golden Grizzlies finished fifth in a 13-team field at the Fall Classic.
This year's event will be played at the Elks Run Golf Course, starting on Monday, March 23, and concluding on Tuesday. While the par and yardage are not currently listed on the official Clippd page for this year's event, last year's tournament was played on a par-71, 6,053-yard layout.
Twelve teams will compete in this year's invitational: Northern Kentucky, Ashland, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IU Indianapolis, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, Saint Francis, Southern Indiana, UIC, Valparaiso, and Wayne State. With every Horizon League program except Youngstown State in the field, the invitational provides an early look at this year's championship landscape.
In their most recent outing, the Golden Grizzlies competed at the "More Than Golf Invitational" in Aiken, South Carolina, finishing 11th in a 12-team field. Oakland brought its full roster, with junior Lily Bargamian leading the way, tying for 27th with a three-round total of 234 (+15). Junior Olivia Hemmila finished five strokes back at 239 (+20), while freshman Logan Bentley recorded her best team finish of the season, placing third among Golden Grizzlies with a 246 (+27). Seniors Paige Scott and Grace Boczar finished 56th and 58th, respectively, and freshman individual competitor Channing Hagen tied for 59th.
Oakland will again travel its entire roster, with Bargamian, Hemmila, Bentley, Scott, and Boczar forming the team lineup for the second straight invitational. Hagen will once again compete as an individual.
The Golden Grizzlies will be spread throughout the Elks Run Golf Course, beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET) Monday. Oakland will tee off alongside Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana on holes one, 17, and 18, while Hagen will join individuals from IU Indianapolis and Purdue Fort Wayne on hole four.
Live scoring for each round will be available on Clippd.
