ATHENS, Ga. — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (1-9, 0-0 HL) dropped a pair of decisive games at No. 9/11 Georgia (9-2, 0-0 SEC) on Saturday at Foley Field. The Black and Gold fell 17-0 in game one as they managed four hits, with doubles from Ryan Schuck and Liam Patton, but could not capitalize further as Georgia's offense erupted with 15 hits, including three home runs. Game two was an 11-0 contest as the Golden Grizzlies were limited to one hit over seven innings, while Georgia capitalized on three home runs and a seven-run fourth inning to secure the home victory.
GAME ONE:
Fifth-year
Kyle Revere recorded two hits, including a double, in his three at-bats. Junior
Ben Clark contributed with a double as part of his one hit and also drew a walk as redshirt-sophomore
Boston Halloran added a hit in three at-bats while making two assists in the field.
The second inning saw the Bulldogs take control with a seven-run outburst. After a leadoff walk and a wild pitch, Brennan Hudson was hit by a pitch, setting up Kolby Branch's two-RBI double as Ryan Wynn added with a two-RBI double of his own, followed by a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to cap the inning at 7-0.
In the third inning, an RBI-double extended the Bulldogs' lead to 8-0. The fourth inning included a pair of solo home runs and a series of walks and a wild pitch that pushed the lead to 13-0.
Georgia added three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer, bringing the score to 16-0. In the sixth inning, a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded pushed across another run.
Redshirt-junior
George Hansen picked up his first Oakland career start and pitched for 1.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on three hits. Grad senior
Camden Cooper followed with two innings of work, surrendering six runs on seven hits, as freshman
Josh Rosenblitt pitched 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Freshman
Tagertt Dillard finished in relief with one inning, allowing one earned run without giving up a hit.
GAME TWO:
A big day on defense on the left side, Revere recorded five assists at shortstop as redshirt-sophomore
Lucas Day contributed with a hit during his three at-bats. Senior
Tanner Ware pitched three innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits.
Georgia took an early lead against the Grizzlies with a two-run homer in the first inning.
In the third inning, the Bulldogs extended the lead with an inside-the-park home run, before the fourth inning saw Georgia's offense explode for seven runs.
Georgia tabbed on another run in the sixth inning from a bases-loaded walk for the final score.
Ware started on the mound for Oakland, pitching three innings while allowing eight runs on eight hits. Sophomore
Andrew Landis entered in relief, pitching and inning with two strikeouts, but gave up two runs on one hit. Junior
Owen Thomson delivered a scoreless inning in relief, retiring three batters on 12 pitches with a strikeout and no hits allowed as sophomores
Daniel Duley and
Wyatt Ruppenthal also saw action, with Duley giving up a run in two-thirds of work, while Ruppenthal closed down the final Oakland out.
The Golden Grizzlies and Bulldogs will wrap up the series tomorrow at Foley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
