SAGINAW, Mich. — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies Track and Field team picked up a season-high eight first-place finishes at the SVSU Tune-Up in Saginaw Friday afternoon.
The Golden Grizzly men opened the meet with a strong showing in the 60m as Evan Bryan clocked a personal-record 6.99 to finish fifth. Ja-Van Poole took third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.41 before returning to the track in the 400m and captured first place in 48.69, securing a sweep of top-three finishes in both hurdle and sprint events.
The middle-distance group delivered several standout performances in the 800m. Collin McLaughlin ran a season-best 1:52.86 to finish third in the men's race. Pierce Grzymkowski (1:55.02) and Tyler Donovan (1:55.46) added fifth- and sixth-place finishes.
In the 5000m, Carter McCalister claimed the event title with a winning time of 15:02.91, adding another victory to Oakland's distance success. On the men's side of the 3000m, Joseph Shaya placed second in 8:42.87, with Collin Farmer finishing third in 8:46.65.
In the men's field events, Simon Griemert cleared 4.56m to place third in pole vault as thrower Connor Cherney competed in both the shot put (13.25m) and weight throw (12.24m) on the afternoon.
The night concluded with a victory in the men's 4x400m relay, as the quartet of Tyler Donovan, Collin McLaughlin, Pierce Grzymkowski, and Bryce Nowik clocked 3:19.70 to secure first-place.
On the women's side, Lauren Goodman raced to a first-place finish in 7.61, continuing her strong indoor campaign, while also adding in another victory in the 200m, crossing the line first in 25.22.
In the women's 400m, A'naia Herd led the way with a first-place finish in 58.79. Lauren Walker followed closely in second (59.16), while Olivia Reynolds placed third (59.89), giving Oakland a dominant 1-2-3 sweep in the event.
Abigail Rice placed second with a personal-record 2:17.77 in the 800m. Maggie Hall (2:24.13) and Grace Grupido (2:33.11) later rounded out the field for Oakland.
In the women's 3000m race, Genavieve Kushner-Lopez captured the win in 10:30.59, earning a season best in the process. Anne May followed closely in second with a personal record time of 10:30.67, while Ellie Voetberg (10:33.14) and Ava Alicandro (10:40.54) added top finishes.
Kylei Anderson delivered a big day, finishing second in the high jump (1.60m) and winning the long jump with a personal-best mark of 5.51m, while Genna Golab and Allison Shelton both cleared 3.23m in the women's pole vault.
The throwers added key points as well, as Lainee Wagner placed second with a mark of 11.59m in the shot put. Jada Ewell later finished third in the weight throw (15.32m), with Wagner close behind in fourth (14.02m).
Oakland will wrap up the indoor season next week at the Horizon League Championship Feb. 28-March 1 in Youngstown.
