Golden Grizzlies Open Power Four Slate at Purdue

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland swimming and diving program hits the road for West Lafayette, Indiana, to face Purdue and Louisville diving at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center on Oct. 30-31. The dual meet and tri-diving competition begin at 5 p.m. ET Friday before continuing at 11 a.m. Saturday on Halloween.

The meet marks the first of three Power Four competitions on Oakland's schedule this season. After hosting the Boilermakers at the Oakland Aquatic Center last season, the Black and Gold now take the road for the next chapter of the home-and-away series.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Oakland women (1-0, 1-0 HL) opened the 2026-27 season with a dominant 249-102 victory over Youngstown State at home. The Golden Grizzlies swept five events and established an impressive tone to start the season.

Freshman Haley Johnson made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, winning the 400-yard IM in 4:31.69 and adding a victory in the 200 fly. She also finished second in the 200 IM and swam on Oakland's runner-up 400 free relay team. Her performances earned her #HLSD Swimmer of the Week honors.

Reigning Horizon League Swimmer and Freshman of the Year sophomore Lydia Soldatke also delivered a standout performance. The sophomore won five of her six events, including both backstroke events.

Oakland's depth was on full display throughout the meet, with seven additional Golden Grizzlies earning individual event victories.

MEN'S PREVIEW
The Oakland men (1-0, 1-0 HL) completed a Golden Grizzlies' sweep of Youngstown State with a 261-91 victory in the season-opening dual meet. Oakland won 17 of the meet's 19 events and recorded three individual event sweeps.

Graduate student Nicholas Karel Subagyo led the Golden Grizzlies with victories in the 200-, 500-, and 1000-yard free events. Transfer junior Luke Vickers also made an immediate impact in his first meet in the Black and Gold, winning both breaststroke events and contributing to the victories in the 200 and 400 medley relay.

SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
The Purdue women (2-1, 2-1 Big Ten) enter the dual meet after winning the Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate at home. Competing against eight teams, the Boilermakers totaled 717 points—nearly 200 more than runner-up Ball State. In the invitational, Purdue earned eight event victories, including five 1-2 sweeps, and set a freshman record.

Caroline Mallard, Campbell Scofield, and Avery Worobel headline the Boilermakers this season. Mallard earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week after winning three events in her collegiate debut against Illinois, while Scofield and Worobel were named to the Big Ten preseason watchlist.

Purdue defeated Oakland, 277-76, in last season's tri-meet at the Oakland Aquatic Center. Soldatke provided an Oakland highlight by winning the 200 back by more than three seconds while setting the pool record in 1:56.32. Oakland also earned podium finishes in both free relays.

The Purdue men (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) also won Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate, scoring 693 points to finish ahead of the six-team field. The Boilermakers recorded eight event victories, including six 1-2 finishes.

After helping Purdue open the season with a victory at Florida State, Aran Bissett earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Bissett won the 100 free and contributed to Purdue's 100 medley relay in his collegiate debut.

Purdue's preseason watchlist selections include Big Ten Diver of the Year Tyler Willis, an NCAA Championship runner-up, and NCAA Championship qualifier Evan Macksey.

Purdue earned a 225-126 victory over Oakland in last season's meet in Rochester. Subagyo won the 200 and 1000 free events, while alumnus Chris Palvadre captured the 200 breast.

Both Purdue teams enter the meet just outside of the CSCAA Top 25 rankings.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
The Louisville Cardinals (2-0, 1-0 ACC) are currently ranked No. 12/8 in the men's and women's CSCAA Top 25 preseason rankings. While part of the team will compete in Westmont, Illinois, for the Team USA Short Course World Championship Trials, Louisville is sending six divers to compete against Oakland and Purdue.

Women's diver Audree Brazeau-Howes was named ACC Women's Diver of the Week following her performance at Centre College. She posted the No. 3 performance in program history on the 3-meter springboard, winning the event with a score of 340.20. The junior also placed second in the 1-meter.

In their most recent meet against Notre Dame, the Louisville women swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. The Cardinals' men won the 1-meter event and placed second and third in the 3-meter.
