Women's Soccer Looks To Spoil Postseason Hopes of Raiders and Norse at Home this Week

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland women's soccer returns to the Oakland Soccer Field on Thursday, Oct. 22, welcoming Wright State for a Horizon League matchup as the Golden Grizzlies finish the season with three straight home matches.

The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a difficult road trip that included a 2-1 loss at IU Indy on Oct. 15 and a 3-0 setback at Northern Illinois on Oct. 18. Despite the recent results, Oakland has shown an ability to compete in tight conference contests, earning draws against Robert Morris and Purdue Fort Wayne earlier this month. The Golden Grizzlies will look to turn that resilience into a result at home as the regular season winds down.

Despite goal totals that aren't eye-popping,  Oakland's 150 shots and 50 corner kicks on the season prove they can provide opportunities to generate pressure, but converting those chances into goals will be critical to close the season.

Thursday, Oct. 21 vs Wright State | 7 pm | ESPN+

Wright State enters the matchup at 6-7-3 overall and 4-2-2 in Horizon League play, placing the Raiders in fourth place in the conference as they pursue a spot in the Horizon League Championship.

As a team, Wright State has scored 27 goals (fourth most in the HL) while attempting 175 shots. A high-volume attacking squad, they have been susceptible to counter attacks off that aggression, having allowed 28 goals on the season.

Caitlin Burger headlines the Wright State attack with five goals, while Ruby Dunlevy has contributed five assists and nine points. Taliah Pellizzari has also been a consistent presence in the attacking third, leading the Raiders with 25 shots. The combination of Burger's finishing ability, Dunlevy's playmaking and Pellizzari's willingness to test opposing defenses gives Wright State multiple ways to create scoring opportunities.

The Golden Grizzlies will be looking for their first win over the Raiders since 2022. Last season's matchup saw the teams play to a 1-1 in Dayton, where Brae Cole scored in the 57th minute for Oakland.

Sunday, Oct. 25 vs Northern Kentucky | 1 pm | ESPN+

Northern Kentucky arrives in Rochester at 7-5-3 overall and 3-3-2 in Horizon League play after a dominant 7-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 18.

The Norse are currently seventh in the conference standings, just one spot and one point away from the final postseason spot.

The Norse have scored 35 goals this season and distributed 38 assists, demonstrating the depth and creativity of their attack.

Forward Megan Molner headlines the Norse attack, leading the team with 11 goals, the most in the Horizon League. She also leads the conference in shots on goal (25) and shots (48).
Natalie Newman has also been a major contributor with four goals, while Erykah Cornett has added three goals and five assists.

The Golden Grizzlies will look to be spoilers this week, and close out the season on a high note.
