Women's Soccer Looks to Make Late-Season Playoff Push with Two Road Matches

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Women's Soccer closes out a three-game road trip with a pair of conference matchups this week, facing IU Indy and Northern Illinois.

Oakland is riding a bit of momentum heading into the week, earning conference points for the second consecutive match after playing Purdue Fort Wayne to a 1-1 draw last time out. Ella Shapiro scored Oakland's goal as the Golden Grizzlies outshot PFW 17-10.

In their last two outings, the Golden Grizzlies have held the advantage in possession and shots. The team has found a rhythm in the attacking half and, with another performance like those of late, could continue its streak of earning conference points.

Thursday, Oct. 15 at IU Indy | 5 p.m. | ESPN+

The Jags welcome the Golden Grizzlies into the Jungle this Thursday. IU Indy (4-8-2, 2-4 HL) has lost two of its last three matches, including a 0-1 loss to Green Bay on Oct. 10.

IU Indy sits just two points outside the playoff picture with six conference points. The Jags will rely on what has been a relentless offensive attack this season. In conference play, they rank third in shots (101), shots on goal (37) and assists (10). They also rank fourth in goals (8). Forward Keliah Muldrow leads the team in goals and ranks among the conference's top five with five on the season. The Jags have additional attacking threats to complement Muldrow, including Caroline Kelley, who ranks second in the conference with 21 shots on goal, and Annaliese Black, who leads the Horizon League with six assists.

IU Indy has struggled defensively, making for an intriguing matchup with Oakland, which appears to be finding its identity on the attack.

The Jags have allowed a league-high 11 goals in conference play this season, including three or more goals in five matches.

Historically, Oakland has had the upper hand against IU Indy, holding a 20-5-2 all-time record in the series, including a 9-3-1 mark on the road.

Sunday, Oct. 18 at Northern Illinois | 2 p.m. ET | YouTube

Oakland will face Northern Illinois in its first conference meeting with the Huskies to close out the week. In their inaugural season as members of the Horizon League, NIU sits one spot outside the final postseason position.

Entering the week with a 3-6-3 overall record (2-3-1 HL), NIU is coming off a 1-3 loss to Milwaukee on Oct. 10.

The Huskies have been in the middle of the pack in nearly every statistical category, recording 92 shots, five goals and seven goals allowed in conference play.

NIU has four players with two goals on the season, led by Monica Correa, who also leads the team with three assists, 25 shots and 11 shots on goal.

The Golden Grizzlies will be searching for their first-ever win over NIU, having yet to defeat the Huskies in four meetings. The teams last met in 2024, when NIU earned a 1-0 home victory.

Oakland continues its late-season push to strengthen its postseason chances and control its own destiny down the final stretch of the season.
