SAGINAW, Mich. – Junior Kylei Anderson took home the top spot in the women's pentathlon along with two school records as Oakland men's and women's track and field wrapped up the Jets Pizza Invitational Saturday at Saginaw Valley State University.
Friday morning started with the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon in Saginaw. Anderson won four out of the five events, tying the program's record in the high jump at 1.69 meters and breaking the women's pentathlon record with 3,647 points.
Later that evening, Simon Griemert took home a third place finish in pole vault (4.40m), as Genna Golab also concluded in the top-five in the women's pole vault (3.32m). Elizabeth Rice wrapped up the evening with a top-five performance in the women's weight throw, going 17.06 meters in distance.
The Golden Grizzlies finished strong on Saturday. From the women's side, Catherine Leahy ran a 25.48s for a 6th place finish in the 200 meter race as Hannah Fisher picked up a top-10 spot in the 800 meter (2:17.65). Haileigh Bissett and Makenna Scott wrapped up the 1 mile (5:05.90) and the 3000m (10:14.87) with podium finishes.
Later from the men, Oakland's presence in Saginaw was marked by a second place finish from Ja-Van Poole in the 400 meter race (48.51). Collin McLaughlin ran the 800 meter race in 1:54.09 for a fifth place finish, as Josiah Magley completed the mile race in 4:17.69.
The Golden Grizzlies are back in action for a split weekend at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor and the Mike Lints Invite in Allendale next Saturday, Feb. 7.
