ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland University men's and women's track and field teams return to action this weekend at the Jets Pizza Invitational, hosted by Saginaw Valley State University, continuing the indoor season against a strong regional field.
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off of a strong showing at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday, recording multiple top-five finishes, three first place remarks, two freshman records, and standout multiple performances across the board.
Lauren Goodman led the Golden Grizzlies on the track with a standout day in the sprints with a first-place finish in the 200 meters at 23.12, followed up by distance runner Eliza Bush continuing her impressive freshman campaign indoors with a 9:41.15 finish in the 3000 meter race — good for a first place finale and freshman record. Kylei Anderson capped of the women's team in Notre Dame with another first place finish in the 60 meter hurdles.
From the men's side, Oakland's presence in South Bend was marked by Kayson Legg-Carr's contribution in the school record for freshman in the men's indoor 60m hurdles. His 8:35s record in the prelims set him up for a fourth place finish in the finals.
At last year's meet in Saginaw, Pierce Grzymkowski highlighted the Black and Gold by winning the men's 800m in a personal best time of 1:53.28, while Josh Cundy placed sixth (1:55.23). For the women, Madeline Richman ran a strong race in the mile to take home sixth (5:05.36).
The two-day meet will kick off at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, followed by a 10 a.m. start on Saturday, Jan. 31 in Saginaw. Live timing for the meet can be found HERE.
